Save the Arts in Upper Darby...WE NEED YOUR HELP!

This post doesn't exactly have much to do with cakes but I feel compelled to educate my followers on an issue that is near and dear to my heart.

For the past four years, I've had the privilege to teach Reading and Mathematics Intervention in Upper Darby School District at the elementary, middle school, and high school levels. Recently, with state funding cuts and much of the district's funding being handed over to charter schools, Upper Darby School District is being forced to eliminate the arts in ten elementary schools and two middle schools. In 2012-2013 and beyond all Art, Music, Gym and Library classes will be omitted from the regular days schedule. Therefore, primary classroom teachers will be responsible for implementing those state standards within their classrooms.

I fear not only for my fellow educators, but also for the children who are being deprived of diverse learning. Without these creative outlets, student achievement and engagement will decrease, and students could potentially explore other activities including at-risk behavior.  Not only that, but teachers will experience increased pressure to incorporate all of these needs, that teacher burn-out is inevitable.

As a very creative and energetic child myself, art, music and gym were my favorite subjects in school. I was not the most confident student when it came to academics, for I struggled with comprehension, concentration and  general whole-group instruction. When I was able to express my understanding of content learning through integrating physical, artistic or musical talents into projects, that's where I felt I shined.

The arts promoted a creative outlet for me. I felt I had more confidence in those classes which lead to self discovery, an increase in problem solving skills and innovation.  Without the arts programs in my school growing up, I doubt I would have been able to develop the talents that lead me to where I am today.

So Help me Save the Arts in Upper Darby School District. Please Sign  and Share this Petition, The youth of America and our nation are at risk!

I'm Back Baby!

After a much needed break, I'm back for your viewing pleasure.

I am now opening the flood gates and accepting orders for the end of May, all of June, and throughout the summer.  However, due to the 8 weddings we have this year, some weekends may not be available.
(Nick's in 2 and I'm in 3…yikes!)

Thanks for toughing out my dry spell. For once I was selfish and had an amazing 2 months spent traveling, entertaining, wining, dining, and preparing for life's latest adventures with all the people who mean the most to me.

So I'm officially back and ready to make some amazing cakes (and cupcakes!)

The Summer of Never-ending Weddings....

This summer/fall we have a ton of weddings and celebrations coming up. I'm so happy to be able to share such momentous occasions with the people I love most.

To start us off...this past weekend, dear friends; Dan and Maria were married at the Chester County Historical Society. As a gift to them, I prepared a sampling of my goodies to be displayed at the rehearsal dinner. I tied in the theme of "love birds" as well as the vibrant colors of orange and magenta into these signature desserts.

Desserts included; Cupcakes (Snickers and chocolate Strawberry flavored) Chocolate and Buttercream Whoopie Pies, and My Signature "Cake Push Pops" in various flavors.

Snickers and Chocolate Strawberry Cupcakes with Monogram  and Hand Painted Love-birds toppers.

Cake Push Pops in Vanilla/Peanut Butter, Chocolate/Peanut Butter, Traditional Vanilla/Vanilla, and Chocolate/Vanilla

Mini and Regular sized Whoopie Pies (Chocolate Cake with Vanilla Fluff Buttercream)

Congrats to the new Mr. and Mrs. O'Connor. May your lives be filled with love and "Sweet" moments, all the days of your lives!

Wine and Sports

Recently I did two orders for 30th birthday parties; one was a wine themed party, and another was a Philadelphia sports themed party.

Cupcakes are the easiest thing for adult birthday parties. They basically serve themselves.  With tons of flavors to choose from, your guests are sure to be satisfied. I always do my best to represent the theme/decor of each event and make the cupcakes the "hit of the party".

CertainLEE an Exciting Week!

Last week I was honored to make a birthday cake for a special young boy Jaxon. Not only is Jaxon one of the coolest 10 year olds I've met, but he happens to be the son of  Philadelphia Phillies Pitcher Cliff Lee.

10 years old is a Big Birthday, so why not have the Coolest birthday cake to commemorate the occasion. Jaxon wanted non-other than our beloved Phanatic to celebrate in style. (Not to mention, the Phanatic was just name the #1 Mascot in all of Sports! )

Jaxon is a huge Phillies fan and who could blame him, his dad does a great job of keeping our beloved Phillies ontop! We delivered to the ballpark where Jaxon was surprised with his cake (he didn't know he was getting a Phanatic cake, but was very hopeful)  along with a few of his envious buddies.

I also did matching tye-dye cupcakes for the kids to eat because Jaxon didn't want to cut the "coolest cake ever" until everyone had a chance to see it.

The Lee's are a very down to earth and friendly family. It was a true pleasure to work with them and I was honored to help create a wonderful memory for Jaxon!

Happy 10th Birthday Jaxon
Go PHILLIES!

Tuesday Tips 4/26

So I ordered a few new tools. Once they come in I'll update how they work.

Here's what I'm trying out this month:

This Baking rack insert will give me more room in my oven for cake/cookies.

For $20 I thought why not!

I also got this Cooling Rack, another $20 for more counter space.
I had also purchased this Oven Mitt a year after I burnt myself three times in one weekend. Lets just say that I won't be doing any hand modeling with all my baking scars.
I'm also trying out some New extracts and oils I just got. Including new Madagascar Vanilla Bean Paste.

Sorry For the Lack of Posts the last two weeks. I was swamped with orders then went on vacation in the Wonderful town of Boston.
While there, I did a little researching.....

We visited Sweet Cupcakery and their cupcakes were fabulous! (My favorite was Red Velvet, while Nick fell in love with the place, the cheesecake cupcake and the counter girl!)

Have a Great Rest of the week.....It's a very exciting one for me, check back soon to see why!
